Esther is delightful; she knows the elk, wildflowers, and valley history like the back of her hand. Know that Esther is the real deal. She has been giving of her time and talents as a volunteer with the National Park Service in the valley with the elk for several years, as well as with Friends of the Smokies. Comments: We were lucky enough to have the weather to be able to spend the evening with Esther in the valley. It truly is a beautiful place and having someone who both knows and loves it makes it that much better. The Elk and Valley are the star but Esther is a close second. Don't miss this opportunity.
Comments: We spent a beautiful weekend at the Waynesville Inn and the highlight of the trip was this tour. Esther is without question the most informed tour guide I have ever had. Her passion for the Elk and the valley is contagious. She shares facts about the area as well as the history of the Elk. The valley itself is awesome but to see it with Esther is an experience of a lifetime. Book early and be prepared to have a great time.
Comments: This is a NOT TO BE MISSED tour if in the Waynesville area. Our hotel (the Waynesville Inn) made all of the arrangements and we had the most enjoyable and effortless tour possible. We happened to be there during the fall rut, so there was a lot of bugling and display. Esther is extremely knowledgeable and a very pleasant hostess. We could not have possibly enjoyed our time more. We look forward to doing it again this year, just for Esther's company! What a national treasure we have in Great Smoky Mountains National Park!
Comments: The whole trip was a surprised to me. Then, the tour to Cataloochee Valley was the icing on the cake. Esther is the type of person that you want to do anytype of tour with, her knowledge is extensive, her respect for the park immense and her love what she does is shown. We were able to see many Elks and be so close to them. She surprised us with hot chocolate and home made cookies that we ate right there in the middle of it all while we were taking pictures and enjoy God's nature. Comments: Last fall, my husband and I went on a tour with friends lead by Esther Blakely in the Cataloochee Valley to see the elk in rutting season. It was a magnificent fall afternoon. Esther was the consummate tour guide - friendly, knowledgeable and eager to answer any and all our questions. During the tour, she provided an elegant light supper for us including wine. We highly recommend this tour to anyone who enjoys learning about the fascinating history of this valley and its occupants, past and present.
