We went to see elk but we also saw wildflowers, wild turkey, a barred owl and a mother bear and her cub! WOW!!! We would recommend your tours to anyone. Thank you again!

Comments: This was my birthday weekend, and my gift was 2 nights in a lovely B&B in Waynesville. The host/hostess were suggesting some things we might enjoy, and they gave us Esther's brochure. We are really glad that we took advantage of this! Esther made it so much fun, and her knowledge of the elk and of the Cataloochee settlers made it so much more than we could have enjoyed just driving in the valley on our own. I would highly recommend this excursion!!
Comments: We had an amazing tour of Cataloochee Valley and the elk! Esther's tour is informative, interesting and she is just delightful! The elk are as majestic as their mountain home! We saw several bull elk and heard them bugle! There were scores of wild turkeys, chipmunks and a bunny. Esther shared the names of flowers that were in bloom. The history of the valley was fascinating. Esther explained how the elk were brought back into the valley and how the herd has managed to thrive and grow. Her love of nature is contagious! Comments: Our Cataloochee Valley elk watch was the highlight of our trip to Waynesville. Esther was not only a knowledgeable guide and naturalist, but a warm and friendly person. From the moment she picked us up we felt like we had been friends for ages. The tour was fascinating. Not only viewing the elk, but the history of the valley that she shared with us. Comments: Last week we were on a driving tour through western NC ending up in Maggie Valley. I had read about Cataloochee Tours elk viewing prior to leaving home & made arrangements with Esther for a private tour. This was the highlight of our week. We had seen elk out west but none this close up nor with a guide who was so knowledgable. Esther was a fountain of information about the elk program in the Smokies.
Comments: My wife and I had a wonderful time in the Valley, and it was one of the highlights of our trip. Shortly after viewing three large bucks, we spotted something in the road - a rattle snake! We also thoroughly enjoyed the nature hike, where we saw a mother turkey with her chicks, and a number of species of wildflowers and wild mushrooms.
Comments: We took a tour with Cataloochee Valley Tours this weekend 7/9/11. We had a wonderful time in the valley viewing the elk and learning the history of the valley. Esther was very knowledgeable and has a great love for nature that rubs off on you. She picked us up at our room in Maggie Valley took us on tour and brought us back with the same enthusiasm she had when she picked us up. Thank You so much Esther.
Comments: Four of us took the synchronous fireflies tour with Esther and saw this as one of the highlights of our year. It was just MAGIC and Esther was brilliant. Her thoughtfulness, research, transport, support, caring, and passion made this trip as special as it was. I would recommend her to be your guide no matter what program you are looking at. She brings a genuine sense of adventure, a love of nature, and a wonderful understanding of what people want to her work.
Comments: We had an excellent tour with Esther viewing the synchronous firefly. A very knowledgeable woman that is soft spoken with a great sense of humor, she had with our group. I would highly recommend anyone to avail themselves of her services, her other tours would have to be great.

Comments: We thoroughly enjoyed our tour with Esther this past Friday. She is knowledgable, passionate and made the trip interesting and fun! Our three teenagers really enjoyed themselves. Instead of hanging onto the dashboard as my husband drove into the steep valley, I could relax and be distracted. Thank you again..great job!
Comments: The Cataloochee Valley and Elk tour was the highlight of our latest trip to Waynesville NC. Esther is totally prepared, both logistically and knowledge-wise, for a very comfortable, easy, fun, and fact-filled excursion. She is so pleasant and enthusiastic and it made for a delightful escape to nature. With her beautiful voice, she describes in various ways about the elk herd, local Indians, nature, and answers any questions you might have. We have been on several tours and hers is one of the best. Highly recommended! |
